Daryl Tweedy transferred to GE in his junior year because his family moved from Manistee, MI to Lombard for his parents' work.  They lived on Finley Road behind GE (you could see the house from the 2nd floor of the school) across the parking lot area where Harry Ryan provided driver's ed classes. He had a younger brother, Ronnie.

Daryl and I became friends, but I have no memory of how.  He was outgoing, friendly, and quickly engaged with school activities.  Yearbook entries show he served on the Prom Committee, Band, Smoking Council, Campus Council, Monitor, and Cross Country.  As you can see, he loved life, had fun and was respected.  In my Aries he wrote on the advertising page for Johnny's A&W Drive-in at Roosevelt Rd. and Highland Ave., "I thought this would be the best place to write because I almost live here."

Upon graduation, I lost track of Daryl as I headed off to Philadelphia for college and he began work instead of continuing his schooling. A couple of summers I did not return home as I had jobs outside of Lombard so the connection was lost.

In approximately 2006 or 2007, I connected again with Daryl in Indianapolis.  I must have been googling names and discovered info that he was nearby so we arranged to have lunch in late fall during one of those years. Daryl traveled constantly because he was a chef for NASCAR.  Wherever NASCAR was racing he was there and helping with their hospitality.  The racing season is long running from early February thru Sept/Oct, so it provided very limited opportunties to stay in touch.  In addition his brother, Ronnie, was incapacitated because of a stroke or accident so Daryl was helping him and I'm not sure how he juggled his work and caregiver status.  After a few emails post-lunch we once again lost touch.

Trying to find him again for the 50th class reunion, it looked like there was an address in Elkhart IN, but followup never yielded anything.  Now it is clear why as he was afflicted with ALS and died the year of the reunion.  A good person lost.

I've posted a couple of photos of Daryl in the gallery as a reminder of our youth in 1961/62/63.
