Phil was a wonderful guy. Artistic. A gourmand. A chef. A manager his employees respected and looked up to.

Five members of the Class of '63 (plus three spouses) attended the celebration of Phil Scaccia's life in March. We learned that he was a trickster and introduced several of his nieces to the wonders of a magic lamp that he surreptitiously controled from across the room. He was also a gourmet chef and helped his friends broaden their interests in food. Carol Phetzing Walksler, who walked to Lincoln school with Phil so regularly that people thought they were brother and sister, said that Phil's family was known for great cooking and she learned a lot from Phil's mother. We also learned Phil preferred blue-cheese-stuffed olives in his martinis. The event was sad in some ways, but a wonderful way to remember Phil.

He and I were on, let's say, different flight paths in high school. He was the aesthete and I was the athlete, but I knew him to be smart and thoughtful. In our later years, we often connected through this website or messages on Facebook, beginning in 2008. We shared similar views on politics and social issues.

He was also a consistent supporter of this website. Not a frequent poster, but a frequent visitor and always ready to send a check when financial support was needed. He lived a long life, but it was too short.

Remembering Phil:

I remember Phil as a very sincere nice guy.  I was in awe of his soft spoken calmness and his willingness to share his talents with me and others.  We had art classes in common, and Phil was an artist to model. I was so impressed with the comments shared at his "memorial" get together, which allowed me to learn more about this nice person...Phil Scaccia.
