Edward George Kostal

Edward George Kostal, 65, of Canadensis, died July 18, 2011, at Community Medical Center, Scranton, after a long illness.

He was the son of the late Claire Grace and Edward George Kostal. He was the loving brother of Judy Claire Keller (Ronald) of Naperville, Ill., and Jerilyn Grace Wollenzien (Robert) of Wheaton, Ill. He was the beloved uncle of Steve Ronald Keller (Eleni) of Palatine, Ill., Debbie Keller Hill (Christopher) of Raleigh, N.C., Robert Edward Wollenzien of Wheaton, Ill, David Edwin Wollenzien, (Laura) of Woodridge, Ill. He was a loving great-uncle to Sophia, Keller, Taso, Kristian and Ada Claire.

Born Nov. 7, 1945, in Berwyn, Ill., he grew up in Lombard, Ill. and graduated from Glenbard East High School. He attended Carroll College in Waukesha, Wis., and graduated with honors. He graduated from Washington University, St. Louis, earning his Master of Business Administration, after serving in the United States Army for five years, including a tour of duty in Vietnam.

Ed was an avid Cubs fan. He worked as an Andy Frain usher. He had a special love for dogs. He had four Maltese dogs named after the Cubs organization; Wrigley, Ernie, Gracie and Caray.

Ed worked several years in public relations with MetLife insurance company in New York City. In 1997, he moved to the Pocono Mountains, becoming very involved in the hamlet community in Canadensis.

Ed worked with many volunteer organizations, including Meals on Wheels, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, AIDSNET and was a trustee and treasurer of the Canadensis Moravian Church.

Ed loved nature, art, music, cooking and spending time with family, friends and neighbors.

A memorial service will be held at the Canadensis Moravian Church at 2 p.m., Aug. 28. A memorial service will be held in Chicago at a later date in September.
