1962-1963 School Calendar

Photos contributed by Mark Wieting

It's amazing the things that turn up. I don't know why I have the school-year calendar from our senior year, but here it is! You might recall that Pep Week was Dec. 10-14. Or not. Probably the most interesting things are the ads at the top of most pages. No Google Images in those days. The ad for Munger Flowers is a truly outstanding piece of advertising art. You can tell that Larry Price had nothing to do with these ads.

The most pressing question this calendar brings to my mind is whether or not anyone remembers Willie's Burger House at 123 W. St. Charles Rd.  If you do, please enter your recollections about it in the Message Center.

The last item in this gallery is not part of the calendar, but something I think is really funny and historic at the same time. It is my charter membership in Mu Alpha Theta, the math honor society. I must have gotten it about the time math became more than arithmetic--exactly when I began to find it hard and was hoping math would go away. But probably I saved it because of the roster of famous names in the signature portion of the certificate: from Chester Bronski to Claire Rose Faist to the Secretary himself, Terry Witt. I probably should have asked Terry for more help with math and I might have advanced past arithmetic.

To open the pages, just double click on any of them, and advance through them with the arrows at the sides of pages.
